Forest Paintings Opening by Russ Vogt
“I want to thank local artists Russ Vogt and his wife Suzanne Rooney-Vogt for the incredible transformation of our retreat room at KTC Minneapolis. Russ and Suzanne spent the better part of a month this summer putting up a new ceiling in this room with Hal and then taping and painting the ceiling, patching & painting walls, and redoing all the woodwork. Then to top it off, Russ painted six floor to ceiling canvases and hung them all around the room. The result is a room that is indescribable in words. It has to be experienced. Those who have that opportunity are fortunate indeed.
Given the camera that was available in combination with the small size of the room, it was hard to photograph the canvases without a "fisheye" distortion. The above photo, although, distorted at the top, gives you some idea of the beauty and energy of these oil paintings. The room also has a black walnut shrine and practice table made by another of our artists, University of Minnesota student Julie Jacob. As soon as we have updated the electrical wiring in this room it will be available for short to medium length practice retreats. Details will be forthcoming as they are available.
An additional note on the topic of artists and KTC Minneapolis rooms – We will be adding information about our library to the site in the not too distant future. Along with that will come some kind of photographic representation of the beautiful redo local artists (and KTC Minneapolis’s librarians) Beth and Gregg Rutter gave the room that serves as our library. Beth also painted some wonderful mountains for us. You just have to see them when you visit KTC Minneapolis.
Thanks to these folks and all the others who manifest the beautiful, compassionate energy of KTC Minneapolis with their practices.” – Lama la
