TONGLEN: TIBETAN HEALING MEDITATION

Tonglen meditation is extremely well suited to the time we are living in, such a high level of suffering for all sentient beings. Tonglen (taking & sending) meditation provides a particularly powerful and uniquely positive way to make use of strong emotions. The practice requires connecting to emotions such as anger, sorrow, jealousy, fear, physical & mental pain, etc, and then transforming the energy into relief from suffering. Tonglen is the most excellent meditation practice to know when you, or someone you care for, needs the ability to transcend mind/body pain, and at the same time put the ability to do so to good use in the world. This course is suitable for meditators of all levels, but you must be able to do Shamata meditation before learning Tonglen meditation. It is especially helpful for anyone requiring ongoing medical attention and/or prescription medication, health care professionals, caretakers, and people in personal and professional life changing situations. Prerequisite: Shamata Meditation instruction. If you are unable to attend one of the Shamata classes, contact KTC to schedule private Shamata instruction.

This Tonglen meditation instruction is semi private. Teacher is Lama La. CEUs for nurses. Tuition $550. Materials Fee $30. Contact KTC to register.

GREEN TARA SADHANA followed by SANG

Because of the importance of the Green Tara Puja we are taking a step into the traditional daily practice structure of Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu monasteries and are thoroughly learning the chanting, music, mudras, torma offering, and consecration ritual of the Green Tara Sadhana that is done as the day breaks early every morning in Kagyu monasteries. It is a fairly challenging puja. We have completed its components and the study of the puja. We are currently doing the Green Tara Puja followed by Sang. We have not studied Sang yet. Dietary restriction: No alcohol or meat prior to Tara practice on the day of the practice. Copies of the Sadhana are provided and are also available for purchase from the KTC store. This practice is open to everyone. The accompanying teaching series below is not on our current schedule. A teaching on Sang will be scheduled as soon as it can be worked into the schedule. Contact us if you are particularly interested in the Sang teaching and we will advise you of the date and time of the teaching as soon as it is firm.

A TEACHING ON THE GREEN TARA SADHANA

In our Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, Green Tara is called the Great Mother because she embodies the Ultimate Meaning of the dharma, the Dharmakaya, which gives rise to all buddhas and bodhisattvas. Thus she is Mother because she is the source from which one obtains Enlightenment and Realization. The Green Tara Sadhana, traditionally known to clear obstacles, is done as day breaks every morning in monasteries of the Kagyu lineage, and is also in some cases one's daily personal practice. It is one of the most well-loved and exceptionally powerful of the Tibetan Sadhanas. It contains an especially beloved ancient Sanskrit piece known as the 21 Praises. Knowing the meaning and then doing a practice like the Green Tara Sadhana produces a precious and rare consciousness shifting effect. Just reading about it and finding out that there is such a practice makes a difference.

On this weekend, Lama La taught on the meaning of the Green Tara Sadhana and there was an opportunity to receive the Green Tara Empowerment & Lung that was open to everyone. The empowerment, lung, and the Green Tara teaching, combined with the opportunity to learn the practice of the Green Tara Sadhana at KTC, which is open to everyone, is the rare precious package that includes everything that one needs in order to be able to bring this extraordinary practice to fruition in this lifetime. Everyone attending the teaching presented a kata and an offering envelope as the teaching finished. Katas are reusable. If you have one already it's fine to present it again and again. If you need one and do not have one, they are available from the KTC store at a cost of $8. This teaching was sponsored by Friends of KTC.
