NGONDRO PRACTICE

Ngondro is the preliminary set of practices that is a gateway. If one has not completed Ngondro there will be no access to whole classes of higher practices and retreats such as the traditional 3 Year Retreat and other retreats. Ngondro practice sorts the men from the boys, the women from the girls - as they say. If you have not finished Ngondro and you're in the room with someone who has, you should keep your head lower and defer to her/him in all ways that are available to you - out of respect for yourself.
If you think you want to make Ngondro your daily practice, you will need to be able to sustain: a minimum of one hour a day of practice; and good, stable mental and physical health. You should be doing daily Shamata Practice of 20 minutes before considering Ngondro. Note: You must be a KTC member and obtain permission from Lama La to begin this practice. Prerequisite Shamata Meditation, Ngondro lung and practice instruction. Schedule a private interview with Lama La to discuss permission to begin Ngondro.

3-YEAR RETREAT PREPARATION

Preparation for the traditional 3-Year Retreat at KTD's Karme Ling Retreat Center requires first and foremost, the undiluted desire and passion to do this profound and precious retreat. To even hear of it is a great blessing. Beyond that one needs to complete Ngondro practice, unquestionably has to be able to read Tibetan, should have familiarity with certain pieces of liturgy and skill at making proper torma offerings, and also needs to learn to play Tibetan instruments. All this just to prepare to be able to go to the retreat. KTC Minneapolis provides the opportunity to prepare for 3-Year Retreat. If the 3-Year Retreat appeals strongly to you that is very auspicious, but then consider that most Westerners are unable to complete even a reasonable percentage of the preparations to start the retreat let alone enter retreat and complete the retreat. It is the rare and extraordinarily fortunate Western individual who accomplishes a Tibetan Buddhist 3-Year Retreat. Schedule a private interview with Lama La to discuss permission to prepare for a 3-Year Retreat.

PATHWAY TO SADHANA SEMINAR

Sadhanas and pujas are intentional consciousness shifting energy work, pointed at a desired effect, that are performed daily by the most talented and fortunate practitioners in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. All energy is connected. The effect of a puja reaches everywhere. There is a more urgent need than ever, for as many as are able to do this work to engage in it now. If you can't do it, perhaps you can sponsor someone who can. This seminar, which is offered when there is a need for it, prepares practitioners for in depth study of sadhanas. Upon subsequent completion of in depth sadhana study, sangha members have what is necessary to accomplish traditional Tibetan sadhana practices and pujas benefitting all sentient beings. This is definitely an undertaking for practitioners able to sustain daily individual practice and regular group practice. Prerequisites: Mind, Thought and Consciousness classes; and Shamata Meditation.
